The Gilded Six-Bits

My favorite character in “The Gilded Six-Bits” was Missie May. She was a woman who loved her husband Joe. She would cook and clean for him. Make sure everything was settled in the house. Even when Joe talked about Mr. Slemmons all the time, Missie May didn’t care about the man. She told her husband how she really felt about him. When Missie May slept with Mr. Slemmons, she did feel very bad about it. She felt like she betrayed Joe, and wanted to make it up to him in every possible way. The coin used as a symbol explained what each meaning was. Without the class discussion, I would not have picked up their presence. I would have never thought that Missie May would sleep with Mr. Slemmons, especially Joe walking in and catching them. She loved Joe very much, so it was more to her of just cheating.
